Privacy policy
Last updated 16 October 2026
Paperclip is built to collect as little as possible. There are no ads, no analytics and no tracking. You never need to sign in to play the daily puzzle.
What stays on your device
Your progress (prizes, stars, streaks and badges), whether you’ve seen the intro, your sound setting, and, if you bought the unlock, a signed unlock pass and the email you signed in with are saved in your web browser’s local storage. Unless you sign in and buy the unlock, they never leave your device. Clearing your browser data deletes them.
What our server sees
Paperclip runs on Cloudflare. When you load the game or a puzzle, Cloudflare processes standard request information such as your IP address and browser type to deliver the page and protect it from abuse. We don’t store this or link it to you. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
The game’s fonts load from Google Fonts, which means Google receives your IP address when the page loads. See Google’s privacy policy.
When you buy the unlock
Payments are handled by Paddle, our Merchant of Record. Paddle collects the details needed to take payment, such as your email address, country and payment method, under Paddle’s privacy policy. We never see your card details. Our server checks the Paddle transaction ID with Paddle to confirm the purchase before unlocking. We may see your email address and country in Paddle’s records in order to answer support requests.
When you sign in
Signing in is optional. It lets the unlock and your progress follow you to other devices. You can sign in two ways:
- With Google. Google tells us your email address and confirms it’s yours. We ask for nothing else from your Google account. See Google’s privacy policy.
- With your email. We send a 6-digit code to the address you type, using our email provider Resend (see Resend’s privacy policy). We keep a scrambled copy of the code and your email address for up to a day, then delete them.
Once you’ve signed in, we ask Paddle whether that email address has bought Paperclip. If it has, the game unlocks on that device. If it hasn’t, the checkout opens with that email address, so your purchase can be found from your other devices.
If you’ve bought the unlock, the puzzles you solve (the day, prize, stars, number of trades and undos, and when you solved it) are stored on our server, linked to your purchase, so every device you sign in on shows the same prizes, streaks and badges. Signing out on a device removes your progress from that device but keeps it on our server.
Your choices
You can clear Paperclip’s saved data on a device at any time through your browser settings. To ask what we hold about you, or to have your saved progress deleted from our server, email us.
